Skill Building For Success in School and Life

Who am I?

I am an ADHD academic coach with 15 years of coaching experience with young adults. Before Pauli Coaching, I worked in higher education for 25 years. I began my career in admissions, reviewing thousands of applications for Columbia University's graduate and undergraduate schools. Then, I left admissions and Columbia for a position at Vassar College, where I got the opportunity to work closely with exceptional students. I found that the most fulfilling work I did was giving guidance to students who were struggling, just as I had when I was in college. I would have benefited from someone like me when I was in college.

Unfortunately, as a first-generation college student with parents who had not finished high school, I lacked the support needed to guide me. In addition, I had undiagnosed ADHD and Dyslexia, so I had to fight my way through the challenges of higher education.

In my first year at Vassar College, I found that the most productive way to make my dream of helping students like me a reality was to educate myself in academic coaching. At Vassar College, I coached, counseled, and advised students on a range of topics, including graduation, graduate school, life skills, and educational development.  My position at Vassar was always challenging, but for eight years, every spring, I felt an overwhelming sense of joy watching the students I worked with walk across the stage and receive their hard-won degrees.

It is an honor to bear witness to the challenges and triumphs of so many amazing people. I look forward to continuing to work with young adults to foster their skills for success in this uncertain world.

Why Coaching?

As a first-generation college graduate. My high school guidance counselor said college wasn’t an option because I “didn’t take the right classes.” I did have a teacher who encouraged me to try, though. The worst that could happen was that I would fail. I didn’t have anyone to guide me through my college years. I didn’t even know what I would get and how many years I would need to attend to get a degree. Of course, I struggled and worked hard and got my degree. It wasn’t until after college that I was diagnosed with ADHD and Dyslexia.

By then, the damage had been done. My self-esteem was low, but I realized that I had done pretty well, considering the circumstances.

After college, I spent most of my adult life trying to “be better.” Trying to fit into what I thought meant to be a functioning adult. I gave 110% to everything I did, and as a result, I struggled to maintain a personal life. Life isn’t perfect but I now have tools to help me thrive rather than survive. Coaching is my way of paying it forward, thanks to all the people in my life who gave me a little boost when I needed it most. I did it, and you can too!
